Yes, unless you’re fortunate enough to live in Arizona, say, we must set our clocks back an hour tonight. Nick’s coming by tomorrow and he is tall and can help with the wall clocks. I can handle the stove and my wrist watch, thank you.
Today, I met with a Medicare advisor, M.J. She was very nice and busy with Medicare recipients, such as myself. I had prepared, but there were a couple of questions I could not answer. We’ll have a telephone meeting on Monday to wrap it up. This is well ahead of the insurance deadline, Dec. 7th.
M.J.’s office is located in Chinatown. I hadn’t been to that part of the city in years. The receptionist liked my ‘Dick Bag’, which I used to carry the documents in.
The taxi I had going had a sunroof! That was a first in my experience. It was also brand new. In some of the cabs I’ve had, the seats were held together with Gaffer’s tape. And no sunroof. One time, the taxi driver actually got out and opened the door for me. Shocking! Coming home, the driver maneuvered the streets with skill. I asked if he’d been driving very long? He turned around at a stop light and said, “Oh yes, 43 years”. It showed.
By happenstance, Connie and I watched the same movie tonight, “Greenfingers”. It was great! The main character (Briggs?) is incarcerated and he learns how to garden from an older convict. Briggs takes it to a new level and soon he is joined in his enthusiasm by a small team of other prisons. Their garden wins over the warden and we are told in the final credits that they go on to win all the British gardening awards, with the Queen’s attention included. Briggs is so devoted to the beauty of growing living plants, that once he is paroled, he commits a minor felony so he can return to the prison garden. Also, being on the ‘outside’ offers him no place to go. All in all, it was very touching. It made me think of Mom a bit. She was a gardener and at one point the President of their gardening club. I’m pretty sure there were County competitions where the various clubs would present their best plants to win ribbons. Patti is our family ‘fact checker’, so I ask. Patti may have been too young to remember. We’ll see.
On my way back from the mailbox, a neighbor had put out a basket of candy treats for Trick-or-Treaters. It was late and no one was about. I took some M and M’s. I wondered about the ethics of that. Then decided not to worry.
It’s the threshold of a new month.…
