Tomorrow is Brian’s monthly Salon. This time there will be Kitten on Keys, a woman cabaret pianist. And, second act, a comedy trio. Sounds fun!
I just finished watching Great Performances on PBS, featuring Rudolf Nureyev. Yeah. Impressive is putting it mildly. The narrator pointed out his musicality. Rudolf was perfect. Connie said she saw Nureyev and Fontaine while she was at the U. Of Washington one summer. I think that’s right. How amazing they were as a duo.
While I was at the U. Of Paris, I wrote a paper on the origin of Toe shoes for ballerinas for a Theatre history class. Here’s the scoop: Maria Taglioni’s father was a shoe maker. It was M. Taglioni that invented the shoes for his daughter. Of course the toe box has been refined, but the invention has been universally adopted by ballerinas world wide. When John O’Keefe and I were in NYC at one point, we sublet Gelsey Kirkland’s apartment. She was Prima Ballerina for New York City Ballet. There was a drawer filled with with nearly two dozen toe shoes.
Looking for two written pieces to record for my Audiobooks demo, I came across the autobiography of Fellini. It’s hard to put down. So, I’ve yet to select a single passage from that.
And then a second?? There is no rush. This is prep work. Never a dull moment, it seems. Happy about that…
