Accolades!

Today I had the last, I hope, of birthday lunches. My birthday was 12 days ago. With Quorey, Myra and myself, we went to Le Marais, a French bistro in the Castro district. I had a delicious Salade Nicoise and for desert the house gave me a flan and the most crazy, yummy chocolate “brownie”. It wasn’t really a brownie, but a melt-in-your-mouth chocolate confection. Ooh La la…

Back home, I called the Library’s Books by Mail to request a new shipment of four books. The four I requested were already on loan and now they are waiting for their return. I’m waiting, too. While I was on the phone, a couple of Blue Angels flew over, with their unmistakeable ultra-sonic sound. I apologized to the Library person, That was the Blue Angels, I said. He, Yeah I heard. Their air show is Saturday and Sunday, this is Thursday. This Saturday there is a demonstration by SFPD Rescue Dogs in the local Dolores Park. This will be an extra test of their skill level to perform a staged ‘rescue’ with the planes doing their noisy acrobatics. Most dogs would look for a place to hide and cover their ears.

I just watched “Society of the Snow” on Netflix. PBS wouldn’t show a movie that starts with a plane crash so soon before the air show. The simulation of the crash was uncomfortably realistic. The plane goes down in the Andes and the cinematography is beautiful. They are stranded for something like three weeks. The surviving passengers are very resourceful. I kept thinking ‘common, get saved’. Which they had to, otherwise they wouldn’t make a movie about a fatal crash, period. A life changing experience for the survivors, add some PTSD. Oh, and a brief nod to the Donner Party as to how they avoid starvation. I’d say watch it, if you have the stomach for it. And fasten your seat belts!!

I still want to go to the park to see the rescue dogs. I won’t be able to escape the noise anyway. Earplugs.
