Beautiful day in the neighborhood!

It was absolutely perfect. Blue skies, gentle breeze and Myra and I went to my favorite French bistro, Chez Maman on Potrero Hill. I had suggested we go at 2 pm, to avoid the lunch crowd.

I had the onion soup and we split an arugula salad. And a glass each of bubbly. Timing was perfect. Instead of desert, Myra got some pistachio mint ice cream to go. Flawless.

The one thing that surprised me was, as the bill came and I reached for my wallet, Myra said, No. This is on Nick, her son. I reacted quietly, concealing being flabbergasted. So much I didn’t know, which I won’t write about. Nick’s thoughtfulness completely took me by surprise. He wanted the both of us, Myra and I, to be hosted by him. It was a show of love and appreciation. His way of giving back.

I had underestimated and judged Nick. I learned a lot about Nick over a simple lunch.

Myra insists on having the pre-arranged lunch on Thursday at the restaurant Quorey chose. I feel that it’s is really over extending my ‘birthday’. There will be the three of us.

Several issues going on within the building, facilities wise. Unfortunately, Quorey and Alon’s space is at the center of the huge plumbing re-do. Alon is a great all-round fixer, but this requires tearing up the center parking lot, right next to their space.

You (I) can imagine that the lunch conversation will be dominated by issues I’ve managed to avoid. By building geography.

Having too many birthday lunch’s would not be Mom’s problem.

I am obliged. And won’t underestimate others.

Learning everyday….
