Netflix niche

After my birthday ‘happiness’ yesterday, I slowed down with a book and watching Netflix.

It seems I have a niche for liking gay Queen movies. Sounds strange, but I am a retired hairdresser (female – straight) and performer. The first film that I loved was “Queen”. Then tonight I watched “Swan Song”. So, in “Swan Song”, the lead is a retired hairdresser who also did drag shows.

Watching actors ‘do’ hair, I am critical. Mostly they don’t know much about handling hair. But then how could they? Time is important. The real job requires direct attention and firm movements. Having to ‘re-do’ makes the job much more complicated. Get it right the first time.

Anyway, both movies were very sweet. And, having worked as both hairdresser and dancer in San Francisco, I’ve had many gay friends and colleagues.

So, back to Mr. Pat, the retired hairdresser and drag Queen, who is in a nursing home. A lawyer tells him one in his client’s last wishes is to have him do her hair for her funeral. Pretty outlandish set-up. He escapes from surveillance at the home and does just that. With a drag performance in the mix. The corpse was realistic. I found it endearing.
