Hemingway

I haven’t studied Earnest Hemingway’s literature a lot. It seems he was very influenced by the sea and the French Resistance during WW11. Tonight I watched “To Have and Have Not”, which takes place in French Martinique during the war. Humphrey Bogart is a sea captain who without conviction or loyalty to the ‘movement’, rescues stranded Vichy patriots. On the side, His character, Steve, does surgery to remove a bullet. Lauren Bacall’s character, Slim, ends up maneuvering a desk drawer with a gun in it at a critical moment, enabling Steve to shoot one bad guy and control the whole situation. There are a couple of cabaret scenes where Slim sings in a low alto. The nuances between Steve and Slim made it worthwhile. Wonder what Hemingway thought?

I’m practicing walking. Pretty basic. What happened is that in all the months my foot/toe was in pain, I adjusted by relying heavily on the left. Now that the right foot/toe is fixed, I have to unlearn my physical compensation. A wobble, if you will. As I write this, I just had an idea. I have credit for more in-home PT. What I will ask the person to do is simply walk with me unaided on the street. Sort of like a gymnast having a ‘spotter’. In my youth I did ‘Balance Beam’ , which is how I know. I’ll dismount now….
