I’m not into sports that much, but there was a cartoon in the New Yorker that made me laugh. A linebacker (?), the guy who carries the ball to the goal, is pushing aside members of the opposing team. With each shove, he says, “ Excuse me, pardon me”.
Which reminded me of the time a much anticipated taxi arrived to pick me up. The back passenger door opened and I literally sat on the woman’s lap who was trying to exit. It startled us both and I said, embarrassed, “Excuse me, pardon me!” Sometimes being polite isn’t quite enough.
Still didn’t get the Sunday NYTimes. All sold out. To get home weekend delivery, you have to subscribe to both Saturday and Sunday. The Saturday edition is a waste of paper to me. The whole week is covered on Sunday with op-Ed’s. You can subscribe online. Here again, I’m an unapologetic Luddite. I enjoy the physical paper. Why would I want to crouch over the iPad when I could take each section at a time and reflect on the state of the world. I do recycle paper.
Recycling: ever since I saw a program on fish in the ocean being harmed by plastic waste, I feel guilty of having to dispose of plastic. This is another dead end. I purchase fresh food, but it’s impossible to avoid plastic wrappings. It’s everywhere. We have a great service, “Recology”. My fear of plastic tape should be redirected.
Next time I go swimming in the ocean wearing goggles and see passing fish, I’ll tap the eye lenses and assure them the goggles are twenty years old and I won’t be tossing the goggles into landfill.
