News from the Sunday Times

I was able to get the Sunday NY Times today for the first time in weeks (sold out when I tried). The encouraging news was that two people were rescued on Saturday from the Nepali disaster. 72 hours is the length of time most people could survive, this was miraculous. Hurray for the rescue workers and what an enormously profound experience for the two victims, Chandika Shrestha and an unidentified Chinese worker. Cancel last rites.

In not so encouraging news, Dr. Anthony Fauci is still getting harassed by the Trump people. Fauci was critical in finding an AIDS vaccine and is now being scrutinized about supposedly misleading the public about the origin of the pandemic. To my mind, Dr. Fauci is a notable public servant. Trump likes to use the term “witch hunt”when complaining about criticisms (legit) against himself. It appears that, in this case, it is Donald Trump who is conducting this witch hunt.

What if the rescuers in Nepal were accused of using the wrong shovel?

On a lighter note and talking about last rites, I just watched “Grace and Frankie”. It’s fun, with lots to do with aging. Lily Tomlin’s character is a later day hippie who believes the predictions of her guru that her death is eminent. That’s the set up with lots in between. You can guess the ending. But a friend of mine, Nancy Lenehan had a bit part. And Dolly Parton is a work-a-day angel.
