Seeking borscht

Out of the blue, I had a craving for borscht. I don’t know why. I like beets and haven’t had them in awhile? So, it turns out a Russian bakery called Cinderella is also a restaurant and opened a new location close by. Serendipity!

An aside story: once I called directory assistance (remember that?) and asked for the number for Serenditipity Book Store in Berkeley. The operator told me the was no listing for “Sara Dipity”. I thought what a great name!

A few weeks ago, I looked up the minister of the church our family went to when I was a teen. This is where AI is useful. I sent a note. Today I received a very nice letter from the Rev James and Barb Neevel. They are both 91 and have served at different churches (and the Lord) along the way, ending at Holland, Michigan. That is the seat of Hope College and the Reformed Church of America. Five children with families of their own. I thought their holiday table must be quite large. It was great to hear from them. I’m glad I bothered. And so were they.

I’m trying to think up new jokes. A start is to base them on common or shared experiences. Things everyone can relate to. One comedian talked about his relationship with Alexa, which was quite funny. The Doctor’s office is another. The waiting room experience is universal. Maybe there will be material at the Russian Borscht restaurant in the Mission (Latino). Although ethnic anything might be touchy. You have to think twice about everything. Where’s the fun? I think about that.
