I finished reading “The Library Book”, by Susan Orlean, which was recommended by our SF Librarian. I can see why a librarian would recommend it. It’s about the 1986 fire that burned down the L.A. Public Library. It goes into the history and value of libraries in general and worldwide. But also delves into the why, how and who dunnit? As my title here suggests, the cause of the fire was never successfully resolved. The prime suspect was a sorry case. A wannabe actor who was good at making up stories and whose alibi changed at least four times. Never went to trial. On the premise (mine) that you don’t plan to read the book, when he finally was cornered to face trial, he had all the symptoms of AIDS. At the time, the AIDS epidemic was going full blast. He did have AIDS and was not prosecuted. The D.A. realized it would look bad. And they were trying to raise money for a new library. There I go again – giving away the end.
Got my desired borscht soup today and it was great!
Looking forward to my podiatry appointment next Friday. I have goals. If he gives me a cortisone shot, I will ask how long it is likely to last. When he removes the large callus on my toe, I expect it will be painful and tender. So, I will ask for painkillers. After all, I want to put weight/walk on it. Lastly, that accomplished, I plan to get mobile, maybe even ditch the rolling walker. Well, I won’t get ahead of myself, literally.
