Memorial for Dick

This was an off-hand memorial put together by his friends from his record store. The location was on Market Street at a bar I’d never been to. It was scheduled for 6 pm. The cab and I arrived way too early. Isaac, the driver asked why I was going there? I told him about the memorial and gave him the YouTube link to Dance Party, which he watched on his phone as he drove. I pointed out Dick on the video and me. Isaac loved it.

The bar wasn’t even open at 5:45 pm. So, I waited at the street lunchettes. People started arriving and joined me. Most knew Dick from the record store. There were to be four D.J.s. Matt, one of the D.J.s sat next to me and I asked what music he planned to play? I encouraged early ‘Girl Groups’, Dick’s fave.

Inside, the bartender asked what I’d like, and I asked for a glass of white wine. Mistake. This was not a “Wine Bar”. He was very nice, but all he had was a tin container of unidentifiable white wine. I asked for a glass to go with it.

Finally, the music started. A blend of heavy metal and god knows. I’m ready to leave. Then I was cloistered by three women who called me by name. Not because they knew me, but they had heard of me. They wanted me to dance. I waved my cane and declined.

The music changed for the better. And, holding onto the railing, did what I am able. It was good to feel the music and express it physically as well as I felt it.

Thinking of all the great times Dick and I had on the dance floor. Wherever Dick is in the cosmos, I’m sure he’s telling celestial beings how to get it right. He was a professional. I am gratified I made the grade. Not to disregard my connections and how together our partnership came to be.

Dick, you’re the BEST!
