Mysteries of Bureaucracy

There must be a pamphlet that connects the DMV and Social Security. Something like “Robert’s Rules of Order”. Because their systems are eerily similar, in my experience. Consider this: you enter the room, you are checked by guards to make sure you have no weapons, you take a number after entering your ID info, you then take a seat and wait for two hours for your number to come up. If you’re lucky.

I almost missed my number, D344, today because my ‘person’ had a very soft voice on the mike compared to the others. A sense of panic seized me and I went to a random window. That person advised me to check window 11. Low and behold, that person had called my number. Ah ha!

It was a very simple request of mine, to update the direct deposit. One would think that could be accomplished by phone or internet, right? I tried. The taped assurance that I would be called back within six hours did not happen after several tries and the internet required another mysterious code. Therefore, the morning is history. There was some unannounced visual entertainment provided by those applying which will go under the chair so to speak.
