I received the post card for the July 26th SF Marathon. The print is small. Unlike Bay to Breakers, which is a direct line across the city, the Marathon wraps around. Starting at the Embarcadero, (I’m using a magnifying glass) the route traces the waterfront to the Golden Gate Bridge, then cuts south on 25th Ave. (don’t quote me because it’s hard to see), somehow gets through the GG Park and follows Haight until it crosses Market and hooks up with 16th Street – which is where my neighborhood comes in. It says “Impact times 6:30 am – 12:00 pm”. I guess they start at 5:30 am. That means they expect some runner to complete the course in an hour. OK…
That postcard was a test. I have my final final eye check up next Friday. I am down to only one type of eye drop twice a day. I have a stash and will ask the Doc how long I need to keep taking them? A friend of mine’s boyfriend may need cataract surgery. She would be the driver and she asked about follow up appointments. I had to be honest. Four so far. So, now she’s reluctant to sign up to help. That would be a shame, for the boyfriend. I got the impression he didn’t know how much his poor vision was an issue. As my ophthalmologist remarked, “What took you so long?” Me, “I didn’t know how bad it was.” It’s true. It was a steady decline. If a switch had been flicked, I would have seen the difference.
Now that my vision is so much better, naturally I’m seeing details that aren’t new. I hope this doesn’t gross the reader out. My second toe on the right foot is longer than my big toe. (Left foot was taken care of after an operation. Anyway, the poor toe nail on that toe grew. And grew. It didn’t go straight out or jab anything. It was quite polite and wrapped itself around the top of the toe, like a self-shield. This calls for a podiatrist. My nail clippers have clearly failed.
With that in mind, I’ll see what’s on Netflix….
