I had a day today that made me question if not my sanity, then why are public institutions so cumbersome? So, I was ready to relax with a dandy salad, a cup of tea and this film on Netflix, “27 Nights”.
Set in Argentina, an 83 year old wealthy woman is incarcerated in a mental institution by her two daughters. One suspects that the daughters wish to control the mother’s wealth, which she (Martha) is spending on a avante-guarde art. Martha is pretty much kidnapped and her placement allows her no means of control, at all. Total supervision and no way to communicate with the outside world. At first, I didn’t think I would like the film. But, of course, Martha overcomes with the unlikely help of the fellow who is supposed to evaluate her mental acumen.
And I remembered how to spell Mazel Tov! I almost called Mel’s old friend, Mike Thayer. Mike and his wife Libby have been living in assisted living for several years now. He would certainly have known mazel tov and given me a lecture. I should catch up with them, but not about that. Mike has an amazing story of how he escaped Nazi Poland as a child, solo, in the winter. In America he became a medical doctor. Mel said Mike liked to think of himself as Mel’s surrogate uncle. I can believe that.
Tomorrow is another of Brian Goggin’s Sculpture Salon events. This time Pamela Z will be performing. She composes and performs digital music. I’ll skip this one. I’ve been to one of her concerts and I prefer a melody.
Speaking of music, neighbor Sally is learning to play the piano. I may have mentioned it. It’s so endearing to hear the repetition of simple basics. Not digital and very human. Also, I’m just passing by, not confined library books I requested haven’t arrived, but the New Yorker did. Unfortunately, this issue is all about Trump. The New Yorker is very left-leaning. Hope Trump doesn’t get wind of that and squelch the fine publication. As you can imagine, this issue has well documented articles of the serious shall-we-say crimes the Trump administration is responsible for. They are well written, but hard to read at the same time.
One of my practices is to think of subjects I want to dream before I go to sleep. Tonight it will be smooth – no ripples, satin, soft – texture basically. Bonne nuit……
