Where you find it

I furthered my education today by watching ‘Antiques Roadshow’.  Sort of.  There wasn’t much else on and Netflix is on the blink for two days.  The location and people interest me.  And what they’ve chosen to bring.  Often, it’s an item that a relative gave them or they inherited.  When they get their appraisal, generally, they plan to keep it anyway, they just want to know its value.

My experience with Antiques Roadshow was peripheral.  I was working at Headlights Hair Salon with two other hairstylists.  I had the front chair by the window and door.  Jim had the middle chair, followed by Glen and the restroom.  One day two clients of Jim’s arrive with two large suitcases to have their hair done.   Glen and I have been forewarned that they are from Antiques Roadshow.  That may be.  The salon is narrow and the suitcases, presumably containing display items, are clogging the narrow passage.  It was impossible to ignore their consumption of space, both with luggage and double egos.  After their hair was finished (about two hours), they were going to lunch.  Of course it would be fine to leave the suitcases? They asked and left without waiting for a reply. Four hours in total.  They made a big deal of waving good-bye when they collected their luggage and really left.  Our waves were enthusiastic and happy (for their departure).

I wonder what it’s like to operate with such a sense of privilege.  They weren’t very good ambassadors for the TV show.

Speaking of TV shows, as you know I was watching TV.  Some blurb went by with a kid doing the hula hoop.  I remember when they came out.  I was a kid and I loved twirling one around and around.  Cut to TV20 Dance Party.  Jim Gabbert has Dick and I on stage and brings out a hula hoop.  I am eager.  I haven’t seen one of those, well in years.  What I didn’t account for was I was wearing a slippery satin skirt.  I could not keep the blankety blank hula hoop up and it fell to the ground. Three tries.  Now that I write about the incident, I want to find a hula hoop and test it to find out if the skirt was really the problem.  After all this blog maintains fact checking!
