Taste, the Menu

There’s a show by Kristin Darrow called “Taste” to be presented here at Studio 124. I want to see it to see how all the aspects of taste (we’re talking food) are shown on moving human bodies, dancers. Interesting subject.

Along those lines, I was looking for something to watch on Netflix and after dismissing a movie with Ben Afflick (not my fav actor) about an ambitious politician whose son is kidnapped and held for ransom, I turned to “the Menu”. OK, great. I just finished making croutons and was geared up for an easy-to-watch food movie.

Fasten your seat belts. The star of “the Menu” was Ralph Fiennes, but the co-star Anya Taylor-Joy was the real star/hero. The set up is twenty or so guests pay for a super exclusive, once in a lifetime time dining experience on a remote island. During their eight course dinner, each diner is questioned by Fiennes, the CHEF, as to their motives or anything they questioned. Like this cod is good, Fiennes: no it’s halibut you idiot. The guests start getting killed one by one. During each course. Fiennes/Chef is clearly crazy. He sets the whole place on fire, himself included. The only one to escape was our heroine, Anya Taylor-Joy.

The thing is, I couldn’t stop watching it. I had to find out where it was going or what happened in the end. Food terrorist taken to the nth degree. A parody of the snobby food scene?

I can’t imagine that Ms. Darrow’s “Taste” will involve murder. At least I hope not.

My croutons came out pretty good. I won’t let Chef Fiennes tell me otherwise. Not ‘labor intensive’, because I didn’t strain my muscles, but it did take some time. Love the taste…
