I have to remind myself not to bother making a recipe I see in a cooking magazine. Lots of work for an eggplant. It came out pretty well, but it took me close to four hours to make. More left overs.
What was fun was watching a special on Dick Van Dyke. He is 100 years old/young! They said he had no formal voice or dance training. His singing one might argue about, but he definately could dance. Very impressive physical comedian. The old movies he starred in were filmed in years past, so he wasn’t 100 then. Still.
I got an email from the Chinese poet/scientist I met last Saturday. I thought she had forgotten. No, she had my email wrong and checked with the hosts of the event. She sent three of her poems which are quite lovely.
I spent a long time this morning (before the eggplant) trying to decide what flowers to send to Patti for her birthday next week. Pink is no good. It reminds her of the breast health ribbons that were ubiquitous awhile back. I chose a bouquet of orangey gold mums and roses with eucalyptus.
One time I went to an Academy Awards viewing party and brought ribbons for all the guests to show solidarity with the Breast cancer fight. A kid that was present didn’t want to wear his until he saw all the actors on TV wearing them. Then he turned to me and asked for his. The power of celebrity. That’s pretty much out of vogue these days.
I also realize I don’t have a clue what is hip for the 20 something’s, say. Black nail polish I can see for a Goth look. It’s not Halloween yet. Green hair color is very hard to pull off, in my opinion. When it comes to clothing, a hint of a human figure? Or, super over-sized grunge? There’s no accounting for taste, no matter what age.
