The ostrich has it easy

Yes, I mean burying one’s head in the sand. Patti made reference today about her good friend Sean, who came to visit her before his vacation. They both acknowledged, sadly, that it was likely the last time they would see each other.

I definitely had that feeling when I visited grandmother for the last time. But she had two generations on me. Mel’s case was different. He’d been in and out of comas so repeatedly, each time might have been the end. I wasn’t ‘hardened’, rather in a state of ignorance. I just didn’t know. One couldn’t. We knew of Dick’s being good for the ‘terminal’ part of his diagnosis. As usual, he ended on the beat.

But now Patti. It’s simply not fair. Her birthday is toward the end of August. I’m sending her gift Tomorrow. Why wait? More time for her to enjoy it. She knows what it is. I had to ask dimensions.

I decided what to wear to Dick’s memorial (changing the subject). A black an deep green skirt I made. It needs repair, it’s mid calf and high waisted. And it still zips up with a tug.

I’m going to put my thinking cap on, as Mom used to say. It sure looks like a dead end, but maybe there’s a detour. Not about the skirt.
