This June 21st is the first day of summer, but also Father’s Day. Here’s to my Dad:
For a kid born in Lawrence, Kansas in 1924, William Prentiss had sophisticated tastes. He chose to play the French horn in high school and enjoyed opera recordings, such as Maria Callas. During WW11, he joined the Merchant Marines as a radio operator, a very important and strategic role on board the ship. A skilled operator could transmit 40 words per minute. I know how long that is practically because I balance on each leg daily for 30 seconds each and I wobble. Next time I’ll try speaking 20 words on each leg, but that wouldn’t be fair because speaking is faster than signaling (I think).
Here’s a message for my Dad in Morse code in the heavenly ocean

I just said “I love you”
