Yes, that’s done.
I’m thing about what to do for my next art project/performance. Beauty is Truth. The relationship between the two. And Truth is Beauty, the vise-versa. John Keats wrote that in “Ode on a Grecian Urn”. C.G.Jung writes about it. And there is plenty scattered through Greek mythology. And any perception of the two is entirely individual.
I have a vase, I guess you could call it that. It was Mom’s and it’s very odd. It’s 14” tall by 9” at the widest, One side has three white flowers, the other side has three Japanese figures. The woman in command, perhaps an aristocrat or titled, and a girl turning toward her, then a boy behind her, all in kimonos. The handles are fish-like with open mouths. It’s clay, but hand painted in enamel. It’s a very curious piece, no markings on the bottom. It has fascinated me since Mom brought it home, to her home.
I have a book on Far Eastern Art. The scrolls that resemble these vase images are 12th century. There is no way this vase survived that long. No doubt some craftsperson took their inspiration from that period. When you run your fingers over it, there is relief in the decorative design. I don’t know if I’d call it ‘beautiful’. I like it. It projects character. Voila! That’s it. There is a depth to it that gives it beauty. Like a person that may not be the standard of attractiveness, but exudes warmth and soul. And therefore beauty.
I’ll look for a myth that explains that through a story. OK, the project begins…..
