My buddy, this iPad, decided to go black. Nothing. Black screen. I tried various things without success. So, a trip to the Apple Store downtown SF. I was there for about four hours. It – the iPad – needed a reboot which took maybe forty minutes. In doing so, everything was erased, or so it seemed. I gradually finding things that are still there, like this blog.
While I was there waiting, they have a large screen about forty feet wide by 25 feet tall where they show instructional videos. At 2 hour intervals, a guest speaker from their team gives a demonstration. I learned a little bit. I had taken the New Yorker to read. Everyone else spend time on their iPhones, naturally. When I did get help, I made notes on top of an article I was reading. I’ll have to save that issue.
Downtown was not like it used to be. Many of the stores are shut. I had thought of going to Britex Fabric store after Apple. I have an idea for some new pants to make. But the four hours wore me out and I just wanted to go home. Which I did.
A million years ago, when I first moved to San Francisco, I had an apartment on Pine near Hyde streets. I took the cable car to my sales job at Macy’s and thought I was in heaven. Everything was exciting and new. Nordstrom’s had the BEST lingerie department (sorry Macy’s). The park was pleasant for my lunch break and the city lived up to my pre-move imagination.
Later, at one point, I got a job being a tour guide for small groups, about six per group. We would meet at a hotel bar near Union Square and take the cable car care to its end at Fisherman’s Wharf, with stops along the way. I got them to sing, “I Left My Heart in SF” on the way back. I know I had fun. And the visitors didn’t have to wait at the turnstile at the foot of Powell Street in those long lines.
