Change of Cast

These series draw you in and you find yourself watching more than however much time you have allotted for TV viewing. That is their job. It’s up to me to look at the clock and say ‘enough’.

I’ve been caught up with viewing ‘The Crown’. Most of the story line, allowing for Artistic license, is fairly accurate. A few details are amusing. Like why can’t these wealthy people change their three strand pearl necklaces? What made me turn the TV off this evening was when they changed the cast mid-way through. That was just unfair! Presumably the characters age, but a good make-up artist can handle that. Tonight the actress playing Jackie Kennedy had horrible hair. Anybody that remembers Mrs. Kennedy knows she would always be perfectly groomed. The worst offense, to me, was switching the actress playing the monarch. That is too central.

In my theatrical experience, I’ve never replaced another actress, nor been replaced for that matter. One time I was onstage with another actor and he dropped two pages of script. That meant information needed for the plot was erased. Quick thinking required. I brought the dialog back, but it meant repeating one section, which was better than losing the continuity.

In real life drama, we had ‘The Incident of the Missing Dog’ today. There were thunderstorms in Prescott and poor little Chico hid. I know the feeling. Somewhere warm, dry and safe.

And in neighborhood news, a fire alarm got triggered in the building by mistake. I was in the kitchen. We are close to the Fire Station and we hear a lot of sirens, so I paid no attention. They got closer, I looked out the window. One of my neighbors was running, not for his health. And then it was all over. False alarm.
