I was priviledged to attend Brian Goggin’s salon event today. Featured were:
Return pianist, Aaron Hammerman, who played 20’s and 30’s Barrelhouse Blues. Reached at IG:@deepbasementshakers. He plays regularly at the Rite Spot. Toe tapping, to be sure.
After a break, N.D.Austin spoke about The Night Heron, which is a speakeasy located inside a Manhattan water tower. Incredible. By that’s not all he’s been up to. He and colleagues went into the catacombs beneath Paris and dismembered a grand piano, inserted the parts through a manhole, and reassembled it. It’s still there and available to any musician who wants to play it.
I was astonished!
