Carnivale strikes again

Well not yet. The weekend of May 23 and 24 is the annual Carnivale festivities. I used to love it! Never did the street parade, but was part of Escola Nova de Samba for stage shows. I love samba. The issue for me now is that the street party is a short block away on Harrison Street. One of the two sound stages is set up right there and they start early until 6 pm. Last year, the D.J.’s selection was not purely Brazilian. The loud sound all day really tires you out when you can’t turn it off or lower the volume. One year they had a group of horses with riders start off in front of my place, which was fun and brief. Another year, because I knew a lot of the dancers, several asked if they could change at my place? Of course. After they left, a colorful trail of feathers was left behind. For spectators who come and can leave at will, it is very enjoyable, I would think.

Well, because the Mission has the best weather and flat streets, plus the Latin flavor it makes sense. ‘Tis the beginning of the summer events. Add in Bay to Breakers and Gay Pride for starters. I believe Gay Pride is now in the Castro and that makes more sense too. If I wanted peace and quiet, I should move to Coverdale? Never been there, sounds quiet. Nah, I don’t think so. So bring on the party (again).
