I kind of like weekends. I’m retired, so it shouldn’t make much difference. It does. Yes, a bit frustrating when you want to get help andthey’re only open M-F normal business hours. Any go forbid you get the time zone wrong. How are you supposed to know if an 800 number is Eastern, Central, Mountain or Pacific? I don’t. Maybe there’s a key.
Speaking of weekends, this last one was exceptional. One thing I don’t bring up is I am disabled. So, getting to a fro requires planning. Doable, but worthwhile.
‘Nuff of that, I would like to describe this very unique building I live in, Project Artaud in San Francisco. It’s a non-profit organization for artists, founded in 1973 by forward thinking Joe Krusiak. It became somewhat of a ‘landrush’ when fellow artists were invited to move in and begin the arduous task of making an abandoned warehouse liveable. Through group effort, we became the first ‘Live/work’ approved building in the city. Others have followed suit. I moved in in 1978. My parents (R.I.P.) thought I was crazy. Previously, I lived in a lovely apartment on Russian Hill.
At the time this area was a ‘No Man’s Land’. What it offered to those willing was their own studio space to do what you wil. So, in the ensuing years, I have made my space perfect for me.
At first, I had no kitchen or bath. The floor was cement. Today, I have a first rate kitchen, bath with bells and whistles, a bamboo floor and a ballet barre. And every piece has a story. For example, I was taking Ballet class with Alonzo King when the studio was renovated. I asked the designer if I could purchase a similar barre for my home studio? He came, installed it with no charge! I use it daily. Every time I stretch and do the exercises, I feel so fortunate. Which I am. He said it was left over and had no better use.
